Lost in Translation
Ann and I went to see
Lost in Translation the other night. We loved it. The movie tells the story of a fading TV-star, Bob Harris, in Japan to film a Whiskey Ad who is as much there to do the job as he is to "take a break" from his wife. He meets Charlotte, the wife of a photographer who tagged along with her husband for fun but who is left alone when he moves on to another city for work. Both of them are completely at sea in a strange land and both suffering from a mixture of boredom and loneliness. It isn't until they meet and start to hang out that they begin to begin to actually enjoy themselves and see something of Japan. The tension of their growing relationship is wonderfully handled and both Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson turn in fantastic performances. I really can't say enough good things about this movie. It was just such a treat. (And, yes, Chris, I do want to see it again so don't worry, you still have a date for the movie ;)
