• Guess I'm making up for a slow month with one blowout day eh?

• San Jose Mercury News: Breakthrough made on new era of computing. Quantum computers? Utterly fascinating!

• Be vewwy quiet. I'm hunting CGI scwipts... Matt's Script Archive and Kristina's Scripts for Educators.

• New York Times: Critic of Technology in Schools Faces Tough Audience.
• The critic mentioned above was Todd Oppenheimer, author of The Computer Delusion, a highly interesting critique of technology in education.
• I believe that Oppenheimer makes some excellent points but what he and so many others fail to consider are the things that technology allow that are unique to technology.
• For example, the Internet lets kids communicate with each other across vast distances (and cultures) rapidly and easily. It also allows them to publish their works in a highly public space which has been shown to be beneficial.
• And, of course, there's the group collaboration provided by MUDs such as Amy Bruckman's MOOSE Crossing.
• Oppenheimer asks "Does NASA have time to talk to 9 year olds?" Yes! NASA and its affiliates actually have excellent outreach programs. I'm working with one such group (The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory) on an outreach project.
